Frequently Asked Questions

At Foster’s Monument, we know the process of designing and ordering a monument can feel overwhelming. Below are some of the most common questions we receive, answered with clarity and care to help guide you through each step.

What sets Foster’s Monument apart from other monument companies?

We take exceptional pride in our work. From meticulous design to solid foundation installation, every step is done with long-term durability and craftsmanship in mind. Our foundations under larger monuments are second to none, and we never cut corners in materials or process.

Is there a difference in quality between gray granite and colored granite?

No, the quality of the stone is the same. The difference is in cost. Colored granite (like jet black, red, or mahogany) comes at a higher price point than standard gray granite due to availability and sourcing.

What is a flagging fee?

Some cemeteries charge a flagging fee before a headstone can be installed. This fee goes directly to the cemetery and is not set or kept by us. Not all cemeteries require this fee, and we’re happy to help you find out if yours does.

How long will it take to complete a monument?

Currently, monument completion takes a minimum of 12 months from the time of purchase. This timeframe can vary based on weather, production load, and cemetery scheduling.

Can we make payments on a monument?

Yes! We offer payment options. Once half the total cost is paid, we will order your granite. The balance is due before installation is scheduled.

Do you create custom memorials?

Absolutely. We collaborate with talented partners to design custom shapes, artwork, and specialty memorials that reflect your vision and honor your loved one in a unique way.

What’s the difference between etchings and sandblasting?

Etchings are either laser or hand-done onto the surface of the stone, typically on jet black granite, and allow for detailed images such as portraits. Sandblasting uses high-pressure sand to carve designs into the stone surface and works well on all granite colors.

Can we add writing to the back of the monument?

Yes. Back inscriptions are a common request and can include family names, Bible verses, or custom designs. There is an additional charge for any artwork or lettering placed on the back.

Is the final date for a living person included in the original price?

No. The original price includes only the information that can be engraved prior to installation. Per Arkansas state law, we cannot accept prepayment for final dates.

What is a proof?

A proof is a scaled, detailed drawing of your monument design. You will have the opportunity to review and request changes. Once it’s perfect, you’ll sign off via DocuSign before we begin production.
